Dr. Sam Parnia

Dr Sam Parnia graduated from Guys and St. Thomas' medical schools in London in 1995 and obtained his PhD in cell biology from the University of Southampton in 2006. He is currently one of the world's leading experts on the scientific study of death, the state of the human mind, brain and near-death experiences. He spends time between UK hospitals and Stony Brook Medical Center, where he is an Assistant Professor of Critical Care Medicine. He was also at Cornell University in New York, where he was a Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He founded the Consciousness Research Group at the University of Southampton and is chairman of the Horizon Research Foundation.

Dr. Sam Parnia faces death every day. Through his work as a critical-care doctor in a hospital emergency room, he became very interested in some of his patients’ accounts of the experiences that they had while clinically dead. He started to collect these stories and read all the latest research on the subject, and then he decided to conduct his own experiments. That work has culminated in this extraordinary book, which picks up where Raymond Moody’s Life After Life left off.
